Description
Would you like to engage the campers with a fun activity during pool time? Are you looking to do something different with them at the pool? Are you searching for a way to explain the importance of keeping water free from waste?
This activity encourages the campers to swim like fish in the water while finding and collecting various objects in the water to make it “cleaner”.
Before going into the pool, read the text “Protect the water” (see pdf) and explain the game rules. Review or provide the safety rules before starting the game; the campers should not run around the pool.
To read all the rules, download the PDF!
Goal(s)
Raise awareness among younger ones about the importance of protecting water by avoiding putting trash in it.
Tips and tricks
Use this activity at the end pool outing to motivate the kids to collect objects. Don’t forget to congratulate them for cleaning the pool and provide feedback on the text “Protect the water”.
Required material
- Variety of floating and sinking items (e.g. balls, dive rings, pool noodles).
- Chronometer (optional)
Let’s have a chat!
Here are subjects to discuss with your campers before and after the activity. Ask them questions to see what they learnt.
- Did you know that it is important to drink water even though you are playing in water? It will help prevent the negative effects of heat and dehydration. If you are not drinking enough water, you could feel dizzy and tired.
- Why is it important to protect water from pollution?
- How did you feel when swimming? (out of breath, calm, etc.)
