Description
Acroyoga is a unique discipline that sparks interest and passion in young people. It’s a combination of yoga, acrobatics, and dance.
The activity includes:
- A preparation period to warm up before performing the poses.
- A trust-building game to help the young participants get to know each other.
- A game to help the participants become aware of their bodies in space.
- Acroyoga poses, adapted to each age group.
Here’s an example of a game to raise body awareness in space, taken from the activity plan for 7-8-year-olds:
- Have the participants move around the space without touching each other.
- When you shout “NINJA!”, the participants must strike a ninja pose.
- You can assess the stability of their ninja poses to help them understand the importance of having a strong base in acroyoga.
Goal(s)
The activity helps young people develop their self-confidence and trust in others, understand their space and how their body moves, and work on their motor skills such as coordination, static balance, and dynamic balance.
Tips and tricks
Emphasize the relationship with others, the exchange between the young participants, the enjoyment of moving together, and the joy of communicating with one another. Position the participants in a circle around you to give your explanations.
Required material
- Yoga mat (optional)
Let’s have a chat!
Here are subjects to discuss with your campers before and after the activity. Ask them questions to see what they learnt.
- Which pose did you find the most difficult?
- How do you feel after the activity?
- Which pose did you prefer?
